Engineering Distance Education
Many institutes through out India are coming up with distance education programme for Engineering. The demand for engineering courses through India is huge, but unfortunately the intake is low. Therefore many students don’t end up doing engineering. Many of them travel beyond their vicinity in order to achieve their dream. Also many working professionals want to do certain certificate courses without disrupting their work routine.
Institution of engineers (INDIA) helps to secure AIME which is equivalent to engineering degree. Even diploma holders are eligible for the exam. It involves individual study.
Indira Gandhi Nation Open University (IGNOU) offers B.Tech through distance education programme. Students who have finished their diploma in related engineering field like Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, and Computer and are employed in their related field are eligible for admission.
SRM University also provides M.Tech as a part of their distance learning curriculum.
IIT Bombay also offers distance learning through web cast, videoconferencing.
BITS PILANI has also come up with center for distance education. Various courses offered through distance education in engineering are:
- Civil Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical and Electronics Engineering
- Electronics and Communication Engineering
- Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering
- Computer Science and Engineering
- Information Technology
The requirement for these courses is 10+2 with minimum aggregate of 50% in maths. Physics, and Chemistry. exams are conducted at individual campuses.
There are many other Certificate courses in engineering as part of distance learning program such as:
- Certificate programme in Automobile Technology
- Certificate programme in offset machine Printing
- Certificate programme in Quality Management
There are also various Post Graduate Diploma courses as well as Advanced Diploma courses.
All these Distance learning courses in engineering encourages more and more students to take up engineering as their degree.
